Learn Thai Vocabulary: Hotel Check-in Words
A Thai hotel front desk is one of the few places where you will need to speak Thai, show a passport, and read a sign in Thai letters, all in the same two minutes. This beginner Thai lesson gives you the words that actually get you a key.
If you want to learn Thai vocabulary that pays off on the first night in the country, start at the front desk. Hotel Thai is a closed, friendly set: the building word, the room words, a handful of requests, and the same polite endings you use everywhere else. You need about twenty items in Thai script, with Thai transliteration you can say out loud, and the confidence to attach ครับ or ค่ะ so the clerk hears respect rather than a barked order.
Why hotel words belong in a beginner Thai lesson
Street-food Thai and taxi Thai get you fed and across town. Hotel Thai gets you a bed, a receipt and a wifi password. For anyone building Thailand expat language, that is not optional. Learn them once and you can speak Thai at check-in anywhere in the country. The signs are large and printed, which is the kindest way to practise Thai letters.

Room types you will be offered
- ห้องเดี่ยว (hong diao) — single room.
- ห้องคู่ (hong khuu) — double or twin.
- ห้องมีแอร์ (hong mee air) — air-conditioned room.

Check-in sentences that actually work

จอง (jong) is to reserve. ไว้ (wai) means the booking already exists. They will ask for พาสปอร์ต. A receipt is ใบเสร็จ (bai set).
Inside the room: requests you will make at 10 p.m.
- แอร์ไม่เย็นครับ (air mai yen khrap) — air-con not cold.
- น้ำไม่ร้อนครับ (nam mai rawn khrap) — water not hot.
- ขอรหัสไวไฟครับ (khor ra-hat wai-fai khrap) — ask code wifi.
- ขอหมอนเพิ่มได้ไหมครับ (khor mon pheum dai mai khrap) — ask pillow add.
ขอ (khor) turns a demand into a request. หน่อย (noi) softens it. Breakfast is อาหารเช้า (aa-haan chao).
Thai pronunciation at the desk
ห้อง is a falling tone. ว่าง is falling as well. The tone marks page and the flashcard trainer make the letters automatic. This is practical learn Thai vocabulary you can use the same evening.
A study tip: rehearse the two-minute version
- Read โรงแรม on the street.
- Walk to แผนกต้อนรับ.
- Say จองห้องไว้ plus your particle.
- Hand over the passport.
- Ask one room question: air-con, hot water, or wifi.
- At leaving, ask checkout time and ขอใบเสร็จ.
